Description:This position reports to the Vice President -Office of Tax Affairs DCFS Americas LLC and is responsible for the DCFS Canada federal and provincial income and capital tax returns (including tax audits) for the Canadian financial operations of DCFS and its affiliated companies. This will include support and assistance in federal and provincial income and capital tax planning initiatives. This position will also be responsible to develop and maintain the federal and provincial tax forecasting system.Responsibilities: Canada Federal and Provincial Income Tax Compliance Prepare the income tax returns for the Canadian entities of the DCFS operations including the payment of monthly estimates, preparation and filing of information returns, refund claims, tax returns and other requirements of federal and provincial statutes on an accurate, complete and timely basis. Prepare complex book to tax adjustments for federal income tax returns. Work with DCFS financial reporting, accounting, and treasury personnel in analyzing transactions for proper tax treatment. Assist DCFS financial reporting with detailed year-end tax analyses related to Canada tax reserve requirements, deferred tax analysis and tax account reconciliations. This will require awareness of the differences between tax accounting and financial statement accounting for various accounting items. Review the tax assessments and representation of the DCFS Canada position to tax authorities. This involves extensive internal research as well as consultation with outside attorneys and senior U.S. DaimlerChrysler Corporation officials. Interface with the DCC NAFTA Group affiliated tax departments including communicating and coordinating all DCFS Canada tax issues and requirements. Provide tax advice and staff support to the DCC U.S. tax department for DCFS Canada tax matters. Coordinate and prepare the responses to audits performed by the federal and provincial governments. Coordinate and prepare responses to assessments, appeals, and notices of objection as required. Comply with all Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 (ICFR) requirements including process documentation, testing and remediation activities as required. Tax Planning Plan to minimize tax liabilities. This requires continued awareness of tax regulations and planning techniques as well as ongoing review of the DCFS Canada accounting systems and major transactions. Advise senior DCFS officials of significant tax developments and give staff support on tax issues such as forecasts of cash flows, income and balance sheet impacts of tax matters for financial reporting, summaries of tax legislation changes to senior management, and payroll taxes and taxability of employee benefits. Identify, research and implement tax savings/deferral strategies. Participate in planning projects as assigned. Prepare specialized reports as assigned. Financial Services Canada Tax Forecast Coordinator Responsible for forecasting the federal and provincial tax liabilities for the DCFS Canada entities. This responsibility includes gathering tax-related information from the various DCFS departments, analyzing the federal and provincial tax implications on a quarterly basis, and providing the information to the DCFS financial reporting managers for the quarterly tax provision entries. Requirements: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance required. Professional Accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA) preferred. CICA In-depth Tax Course preferred. MBA, JD or Master Degree in Taxation preferred. Minimum of eight years experience in Canadian income tax preparation, with an emphasis on corporate income tax, in either a Fortune 100 manufacturing company or a national/regional public accounting firm. Experience in the analysis of tax assessments and the appeals process. Extensive analytical, organizational and research skills to interpret complex tax laws, regulations and administrative practice. Must be proficient with PC based applications and analytical tools including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs. Experience with Tax Prep corporate tax software preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. Experience negotiating with tax authorities and dealing with tax auditors.
