Description:ResponsibilitiesThis position will share responsibilities between the Income Tax Group and the Transaction Tax Group. Specific responsibilities of this position include: - Participating in the internal tax compliance and account reconciliation assessment /verification projects and testing under Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Keeping current with the new requirements for VZW under Sarbanes-Oxley and tax law to ensure compliance. - Ensuring the accuracy, clarity and thoroughness of all information included on the tax returns in accordance with the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley. - Analyzing and promptly responding to tax notices from various tax jurisdictions. - Analyzing tax compliance processes and conducting tax research to identify potential issues that could result in the under or overpayment of tax due to process gaps and/or the addition of new products or services. Deciding whether tax compliance processes and systems are adequate or require improvement and recommending solutions to enable management's achievement of key business objectives. - Assist in the preparation of response(s) to external audit request from various governmental agencies for tax return documentation and support. This includes performing ad hoc accounting or billing system queries, reviewing, assembling and organizing historical tax return documentation/support within reasonable target dates. - Assist in the preparation of federal, state, and local income tax returns for corporations and partnerships. - Assist in the preparation and analysis of state income tax apportionment factors for both single state and multi-state entities. - Assist in the preparation of federal and state quarterly income tax estimated payments. - Assist permanent staff with respect to research of income tax technical issues as required. Qualifications - BA/BS candidate in accounting, finance, and/or economics. MBA a plus. - Previous public accounting, tax, or accounting/finance internship experience a plus - Strong written & verbal communication skills - Excellent interpersonal skills - Knowledge PowerPoint, Excel, Word is required. - Knowledge of MS Access a plus. - Knowledge of accounting queries (i.e. Peoplesoft) a plus.
